Lake of the Isles Revival
East Isles, Minneapolis, MN
Built in 1905, the house had undergone many renovations and additions over the last 100 years. Inspired by a historic photo of the house, the owners wanted to bring the structure back to its original shingle style charm and allow it to engage the neighborhood lined with open porches and historically rich architecture.

The goal of this exterior renovation was to restore and strengthen the home's architectural character. The pre-weathered grey cedar shingles, a system of double columns and the restrained painted wood trim were all purposely used to stay true to the shingle style architecture of the original home. The once open porch had been closed in and the openings were filled with screens completely disconnecting the use of the porch from the neighborhood life along the street. Opening the porch allowed the owners to reconnect with the neighborhood; summer and fall nights are now spent relaxing on the porch and catching up with the neighbors.
